ABOUT MHIAAC.ORG (MENTAL HEALTH IN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY, INC.)

Mental Health In The African American Community, Inc. (MHIAAC.ORG) is a non-profit grassroots program that provides mental and behavioral health education, awareness, support and referral services for African American families and the professionals serving them. Our initiative is designed to educate primary healthcare providers, employers, consumers and the community at large on some of the early warning signs of mental illness and strategies that can be used to address related problematic issues and concerns. Also, we aim to identify and implement approaches that can be used to overcome socio-cultural stigma that is pervasive in the African American community concerning mental illness. It is imperative that we take a leadership role and appropriate action-oriented steps to avert the deleterious impact of untreated mental illness among African American individuals, families, and communities.

THANK YOU MHIAAC, FOR HELPING ME TO FIND A DOCTOR WHO CAN RELATE TO MY CULTURE!

MHIAAC, Inc. has helped me tremendously. I needed a resource to guide me with pursuing wellness. I have brain illness, and now, thanks to the support group, Let's Talk About It, and the Provider Network, I have a new therapist, and a new psychiatrist who is culturally competent. I attend the group weekly with others who share my journey, and I now have a new purpose, a new quality of life! I have the support I need to pursue my college degree!
